Countdown: McCain’s Fanciful Energy Plan

I liked this remark from a commenter at OGM:

The real irony is that McCain and Gingrich, with their implicit faith in ‘markets’, think that the market wouldn’t reward a company with “engine that can be mass produced that gets 100 miles or more to the gallon of fuel” with a hell of a lot more than $300 million or $1 billion. I picture both these morons dramatically yelling “One…BILLION…dollars,” while holding pinky fingers at the corners of their mouths, ala Dr. Evil.

Update: Dan at Culture choc raises some good points about “Peak Oil” and in particular the impact of high oil prices on the agricultural sector and the failure of the “free market” to develop and deploy non-oil-based alternatives to the current energy (read: petroleum) intensive paradigm relative to our food supply.
