Oh Davey!

First part of a 2003 documentary hosted by Clifton Davis and Mary McDonough about the Davey and Goliath television series. Some of you over 40 might remember watching this back in the late 60s and early 70s when the Sunday morning offerings on TV for kids were, to say the least, pretty slim.

Produced by the Lutheran Church with stop-motion animation by the creators of the surreal Gumby series, each 15-minute episode featured the adventures of Davey Hansen and his “talking” dog Goliath (although only Davey and the viewer can hear him speak) as they learn the love of God through everyday occurrences.

No matter what your beliefs (or lack thereof) it has to be admitted that this was a very sweet, good natured program — you’d really have to be some kind of a miserable cur not to find it charming and quite delightfully affirmative.
